The Graphics Muse Tools are a set of plugins, brushes, and patterns designed for use with the GIMP.

The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a Photoshop-like application that runs on Linux, Unix, Windows, and even Mac OS X systems.

Latest versions

For GIMP 1.2:

Graphics Muse Tools: 2.0    Graphics Muse Data: 1.0

For GIMP 2.2 (Beta release of the plugins):

Graphics Muse Tools: 3.0.0B2    Graphics Muse Data: 1.0

Note that this software is designed specifically for Linux and Unix systems. There is no official Windows or OS/2 port, though if I can find someone to help port and maintain it from here I'd be happy to add such support. Someday - if I can afford to get a box to do the development work on - I'll look at porting to GIMP on OS X (aka MacGIMP).

Building the software

Prerequisites
    V2.0 (GIMP 1.2)
  1. GTK+ 1.2 has been installed on your system.
  2. GIMP 1.2 has been installed on your system.
  3. gtk-config --libs prints out the correct information for where GTK+ 1.2 has been installed.
  4. gimp-config --libs prints out the correct information for where GIMP 2.2 has been installed.
    V3.0.0 (GIMP 2.2 port)
  1. GTK+ 2.4 or GTK+ 2.6 has been installed on your system.
  2. GIMP 2.2.0 or later has been installed on your system.
  3. pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0 prints out the correct information for where GTK+ 2.4 or 2.6 has been installed.
  4. pkg-config --libs gimpui-2.0 prints out the correct information for where GIMP 2.2 has been installed.
Compiling

The Graphics Muse Tools uses Imake instead of Autoconf for it's build environment. Don't be scared - it's not much different from a users perspective.

In the following, substitute the real version number where it says "version". Note that there is a config.h file you can edit prior to compiling but chances are you won't need to change anything.

  1. Download the software and unpack it: tar xvzf GFXMuseTools-version.tar.gz
  2. cd GFXMuseTools-version
  3. xmkmf; make Makefiles; make; make install
  4. Start GIMP 2.2

To download the latest versions of the Graphics Muse Data, run the following command:

cvs checkout GFXMuseData

Note that the CVS project for the Graphics Muse Tools has been branched and the latest stable version must be checked out with the specified branch tag (i.e V2_0_0-1).

The GIMP 2.x / GTK+ 2.x port

The current CVS HEAD is being used to port to GTK+ 2.x and GIMP 2.x. If you want to play with the bleeding edge source grab it from the CVS:

cvs checkout GFXMuseTools

What is XEUS?

XEUS stands for Ximba End User Software. Ximba is the new name for the Graphics Muse. XEUS is my own personal SourceForge.

Ximba focuses on desktop software (including graphics). XEUS is the web site that makes this software publicly available as well opening the software to public contribution.
